This is the dark conclusion that humans have reached in David Karlak’s short film “Rise.”  In the near future, robots have developed advanced emotional sophistication and their human creators don’t like it.  What should have been a simple and violent extermination of artificial life proves harder when a captured robot demonstrates that the human aggressors are biting off more than they can chew. Our team loves the short for its impressive visual effects and character driven story.  The late Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin delivers an especially strong performance that gets viewers to sympathize with the plight of a creation that is no longer wanted by its creator. Real simple: Robots don't need the same things as humans. All conflict derives from contention over resources. There is no resource contention between humans and robots, nor will there be so long as we don't build ones that have need for things like lots of physical space, food, etc. If there ever is conflict between humans and robots, robots will win because time is meaningless to them. They can simply wait us out. For centuries if need be. Makes no difference to them.

The real danger of robots, fully sentient or not, will be how humans react to them. As we develop robots, we will purge any negative traits. We will guarantee they aren't racist, sexist, quick to anger, cruel, etc. They will end up 'better' than humans in basically every way. And we already know how humans tend to respond to this. They redefine their weaknesses as virtues. They will argue that to hate, to attack, and to kill is what makes one fundamentally human, and in that is human glory. It will not be pretty.

Every movie about robots its about killing and violence. Too bad nobody had an idea to come up with a movie about great future after making first cyborg that helps us develop as a civilization. Oh well, same story with different actors.

Isn't this just more of the same? A.I comes about, it and humans fight while twirling their mustaches, fight reveals humans as the real monster, we're so awful, we all deserve to die. I'm tired of this dismal shit. A.I sci fi could explore so many themes and possibilities from an A.I based upon a dozen human minds linked together to humans becoming cyborgs or something as a next step in evolution. Something, ANYTHING, other than these yawn-fest "rise of the machines" sci fi films written by misanthropes.

Zack Hemsey on the beat <3
I hope they ask Hemsey to compose the music for the full feature film, because he deserves an actual movie job.

This could be one of the most epic sci-fi's of the last 50 years if made into a feature film! That short was amazing, I'm blown away. Also, was that Anton Yelchin?
